Plant City Woman Accused of DUI, Deliberately Running Over Man

Hillsborough deputies said she was almost three times the legal limit of alcohol. The man suffered life-threatening injuries.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Plant City woman was arrested when she fled the scene after deliberately running over a man on I-4, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

The man she ran over, whose name was withheld, was taken to Tampa General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Alicia Michel Belcher, 38, of Plant City, was charged with one count each of Driving Under the Influence (Over 0.15), DUI with Serious Bodily Injury, Leaving the Scene of the Crash with Serious Bodily Injury, and Aggravated Battery Great Bodily Harm and Deadly Weapon.

The crash happened about 7:05 p.m. Thursday (April 25) on I-4 in Hillsborough County.

Deputies said Belcher and the man were traveling east on I-4  when they became engaged in a verbal altercation. Belcher stopped the vehicle and the man got out and crossed to the far side of the interstate.

Belcher crossed over all three lanes, intentionally struck the man with her vehicle and fled, deputies said. She was found on Highway 579 just north of Hillsborough Avenue E.

Deputies said Belcher exhibited signs of impairment. Belcher provided breath samples showing a breath alcohol content of 0.219/0.210.
