Plant City Police Charge Man in Shooting

A teen is in critical condition after the shooting, Plant City police said.

PLANT CITY – Police here have charged a man in a shooting that left a 15 year old in critical condition.

The teenager, who was hit in the head and shot in the abdomen, was taken to a hospital. Plant City police have not released his name.

Ricardo Gonzales, 42, of 1705 Charles Ave. in Plant City, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, and one count each of aggravated child abuse and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to records from the Orient Road jail.

The shooting happened about 11:42 p.m. Monday (Dec. 26). Officers said Gonzales verbally threatened April Masias, 32, and placed a gun to her head before firing one round into the ground. Police said she feared for her life.

Her son, who was in another room, heard the gunshot and thought his mother had been shot. Officers said he confronted Gonzales. Gonzales stuck the teen in the head with the gun and placed it to the 15 year old’s abdomen and fired one shot.
