Pinellas sheriff’s deputies are looking for a second suspect.

PINELLAS COUNTY – After a car chase, Pinellas deputies arrested and charged a St. Petersburg with a home invasion robbery.

Richard B. Cann, 21, of 1118 19th St. S in St. Petersburg, was charged with home invasion robbery with a deadly weapon, grand theft motor vehicle, fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, and having no valid driver’s license, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said Cann and another man knocked on the door of an apartment about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 12). When the apartment’s resident, Terra Bertocci, answered the door, one of the men threatened her with a handgun and demanded the keys to her car. Bertocci gave the men her car keys and both men fled the scene in her 2008 Lexus ES350.

While deputies were responding to the scene, they saw Bertocci’s Lexus near the intersection 49th Street N and 54th Avenue. Deputies said they tried to get the car to stop, but it went northbound on 49th Street. Deputies followed the Lexus and tried to stop it when it turned around to head back south on 49th.

Deputies said that, during the pursuit, the Lexus was involved in a minor traffic crash with no injuries at the intersection of 49th Street and 54th Avenue N. The Lexus sustained a flat tire and continued westbound on 54th Avenue to 54th Street N, where the vehicle turned south into a residential area. Deputies following the stolen Lexus used their vehicle to make contact with the Lexus and force the Lexus to lose control. The Lexus struck a tree and was disabled. Both suspects fled the scene on foot, deputies said.

K-9 deputies responded and started an extensive searching for the suspects. Deputies said they found Cann, the driver of the stolen Lexus, hiding in a swimming pool behind a residence at 5020 54th St. N. The second suspect was not found. Deputies said they found a handgun in the stolen Lexus.

Deputies described the second suspect as a male, about 6 feet 2 inches tall, very dark skinned, with very short “twist” dreads, wearing a maroon shirt and black pants.
