Officers do not believe the shooting was random, the Pinellas Park Police Department said.

PINELLAS PARK – Officers are investigating the shooting death of a Colorado man in an apartment parking lot, the Pinellas Park Police Department said.

Maurice A. Cole, 20, of Colorado Springs, CO, died of his injuries at Northside Hospital where he was taken after the shooting.

The shooting took place about 7 p.m. Friday (July 27) in the parking lot of the Bell Apartments, 4030 78th Ave. N, which is believed to be where Mr. Cole’s girlfriend lived. Mr. Cole had only been staying at the apartment complex where the shooting took place since about July 16.

Investigators said they believe that Mr. Cole was in the parking lot speaking with someone else when the shooting took place. The unknown suspect fled the scene after the shooting.

At this time investigators said they have not yet identified a suspect or a specific motive for the shooting but do not believe it was random.
