The incident began as a domestic disturbance. Police say the father shot his son to death.

PINELLAS PARK – A father and son died and two police officers are on paid leave after an officer-involved shooting Saturday (June 25) night, Pinellas Park police said.

Waldemar Bogusiewicz, 59, died of his wounds at Northside Hospital. His son, Adrian K. Bogusiewicz, 25, died in the family’s home. Alcohol appears to be a factor in the shooting, police said. Neither officer was injured.

Police said Irena K. Bogusiewicz, 58, called them to the house at 6082 96th Ter. N about 8:48 p.m. to report a domestic dispute. When Officers M. Jasiukiewicz and  J. Copeland arrived, she told them that she and her husband, who was intoxicated, were arguing over who was going to buy more beer.

During this argument, Adrian Bogusiewicz came out to see what was going on between his parents, police said. The wife left the residence because of her husband’s demeanor and called the police, leaving her son and husband alone in the home. Sometime between the time Mrs. Bogusiewicz left the house and the time the police arrived, Mr. Bogusiewicz and his son got into a confrontation that resulted in the father’s shooting the son multiple times in the son’s bedroom.

The officers returned to the home with Mrs. Bogusiewicz to investigate the domestic dispute without realizing what had taken place just before their arrival. As the officers and wife entered the home, the officers saw Adrian Bogusiewicz already shot on the floor of his bedroom just inside the house. They saw Mr. Bogusiewicz in the home with a gun in his hand. Police said he began yelling for the officers to leave and started shooting at them. Mrs. Bogusiewicz, having seen her husband, had run from the house, yelling that he had a gun. The officers returned gunfire at the husband and apparently hit him. He later died at Northside Hospital.

During a search of the residence multiple firearms were found in both the son’s bedroom and the master bedroom, police said. Autopsy results are pending on both the son and husband; however, alcohol does appear to be a factor in the shooting on the part of the husband.

Neither officer was injured and both are on paid administrative leave under department policy. Jasiukiewicz has been with the Pinellas Park Police Department since September 2012. Copeland has been with the department since April 2015.
