Pinellas Park Police Charge Driver in Death of Motorcyclist

Pinellas Park police say the driver had been drinking at the time of the crash.

PINELLAS PARK – Police here have charged a Tampa man with DUI in a traffic crash Sunday (March 12) that caused the death of a motorcyclist.

Lawrence Michael Wagner, 56,of St. Petersburg, was pronounced dead at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he was taken after the crash.

Anthony Robert Davis, 25, of 1203 High Hammock Drive, No. 104 in Tampa, was charged with DUI manslaughter and DUI personal injury damage to personal property.

The crash happened about 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Gandy Boulevard and Grand Avenue. Pinellas Park police said Davis, who was westbound in a Ford Mustang, made an improper lane change and rand the red left turn arrow while trying to make a U-turn to go east on Gandy. While doing so, he drove into the path of the 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle Mr. Wagner was driving and of a Ford Mustang driven by Roshell Rivas, 20, of St. Petersburg.

Both vehicle struck Davis’ car. The collision caused Mr. Wagner to be thrown from his motorcycle.

Police said Davis showed signs of impairment when speaking to officers on scene. Officers conducted a DUI investigation and subsequently arrested Davis.
