James R. Miller | Pinellas Sheriff | Arrests

His employment was immediately terminated following the arrest, which is consistent with Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office policy.

DUNEDIN – A corporal with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office has lost his job after he was charged with drunken driving early this morning (Aug. 25).

James R. Miller, 50, was charged with one count of driving under the influence. He was fired immediately after his arrest, which is consistent with department policy. He had worked with the sheriff’s office since Sept. 24, 2001. He was working as a corporal in the Patrol Operations Bureau.

The incident happened about 2:44 a.m. in Dunedin. Deputies said they were called to a single vehicle crash at 1283 Bayshore Blvd. When deputies arrived, they said they saw a vehicle that had struck a telephone pole and tree.

Miller was the only one in the vehicle. He refused medical treatment.

Deputies said Miller showed signs of impairment by having bloodshot and glassy eyes, a slight slur to his speech, and a distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his mouth.

Miller agreed to perform field sobriety tests, but performed poorly on them. Deputies said that Miller submitted to a breath sample which indicated he had a BrAC of 0.124/0.121.
