Pinellas Deputies, Police Accuse 12 of DUI

Pinellas sheriff’s deputies spearheaded a countywide wolf pack Sunday night that resulted in 142 total charges and citations.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Pinellas County sheriff’s deputies and other police officers charged 12 drivers with drunken driving during a 10-hour wolf pack operation.

The wolf pack operation began at 5 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 3) and ended at 3 this morning. The goal of the Wolf Pack was to get drunken drivers off the road and to educate people and create public awareness about the dangers of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and any chemical or controlled substances.

Police officers from the Clearwater, Gulfport, Largo, St. Petersburg and Tarpon Springs police departments, and G4S Prisoner Transport took part in the operation.

During the operation, officers filed a total of 21 criminal charges. Of those, 12 were accusations of drunken driving, three were for misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance; two felony possession of a controlled substance; two driving while license was suspended or revoked; one resisting arrest without violence; and one refusal to submit to breath testing.

Officers also wrote a total of 121 traffic citations: 36, speeding; one, no valid driver’s license; 14, driving while license suspended or revoked; eight, no valid insurance; one, violation of drivers license restrictions; one, open container; 33 other non-moving violations: and 27 other moving violations.
