Registration Open for Police Explorer Program

The program, for high school students, is a collaboration between the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Petersburg, Pinellas Park and Gulfport police departments.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Registration has opened for the third annual Multi-Jurisdictional Police Explorer Academy.

The academy will provide training in areas of criminal investigations, ethics, weapons familiarization, building searches, traffic stop training, K-9 demonstration, defensive tactics, a jail tour, officer survival, homicide investigations and domestic violence investigations. The academy will be held during a two week period. Week 1: July 7,8, 9; week 2: July 14, 15, 16, 17. Graduation will be held July 17.

The academy is open to young men and women between the ages of 14-18 years old. They must pass a background check. They must be enrolled and attending high school in fall of 2015. Academy participants will need to be able to perform physical exercises. Hold harmless agreements and photo/media releases will be required for all participants. Youth will need transportation to their respective explore post site for the day. Space is limited and not all applicants will be able to attend.
