The sheriff is investigating a deputy-involved shooting after a man pointed a rife at deputies. The shooting happened late Monday (Dec. 12) night in the unincorporated Largo area.

LARGO – A Pinellas deputy shot and wounded a man Monday (Dec. 12) after he pointed a gun at officers, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

No deputies were injured. Logan Ian Ullrich, 25, was taken to Bayfront Health for a  non-life-threatening injury. Ullrich, of 14350 Oliver St., was charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Deputies said they were called to 14530 Oliver St. in the unincorporated Largo area about 9 p.m. Monday (Dec. 12) to check on Ullrich’s welfare. His girlfriend, who lives out of state, was worried that Ullrich might have a weapon and might hurt himself because he was expressing suicidal thoughts.

Deputies met with Ullrich and his parents at their home. They determined that Ullrich did not meet the Baker Act criteria and left.

At about 10:20 p.m., Ullrich’s father called deputies from a neighbor’s residence informing deputies that Ullrich’s behavior had gotten worse. When deputies arrived, they staged outside the residence near the intersection of Oliver Street and Hamlin Boulevard.

Deputies contacted Ullrich and his mother by phone. While speaking with his mother, deputies said they overheard Ullrich trying to arm himself. Deputies said Ullrich left the house armed with a 30-06 rife, and ran westbound on Oliver Street towards deputies at Hamlin Boulevard.

Deputies said they ordered Ullrich to drop the rifle but he refused and continued towards the deputies. Deputies said Ullrich turned and leveled the rifle towards the deputies when Sgt. Paul Langlais and Deputy Benjamin Fisher fired multiple shots striking Ullrich once in the leg.
