Pedestrian | Pedestrian Accident | Pedestrian Dead

Pinellas sheriff’s deputies are searching for one driver who left the scene.

KENNETH CITY – A pedestrian died Thursday (Oct. 6) night when he was struck by two vehicles while trying to cross 54th Avenue N.

Randal Henry Ripple, 36, of 5288 56th Ter. N, died at the scene, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

The crash happened about 9:08 p.m. Mr. Ripple, who was not in a crosswalk, was crossing 54th Ave N just west of 58th Street N when he was hit by a 2009 Jeep Patriot driven by Teena Harrigan, deputies said.

Within seconds of Harrigan’s Jeep’s hitting Mr. Ripple, a second vehicle, a white four-door hatchback, struck him and dragged him several feet before stopping. Deputies said the hatchback’s driver initially pulled over, got out of his car and spoke with Harrigan. A short time later, the driver of the hatchback returned to his car and left the scene without providing any information.

Deputies said Harrigan provided a voluntary blood draw and no impairment is suspected.

Deputies say there were several empty alcoholic containers on the south side of 54th in the area of the crash. According to a witness, Mr. Ripple was seen an hour before the crash sitting in that area drinking what appeared to be alcoholic beverages. Deputies said they suspect Mr. Ripple was impaired by alcohol.

Deputies are searching for the driver of the hatchback who is described as a white man in his 50s to 60s, medium build, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, wearing a dark hat and pants. The hatchback was last seen traveling east on 54th away from the scene. Deputies said they are reviewing surveillance video in the area.

Deputies are asking anyone with information regarding this crash to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (727) 582-6200.
