DUNEDIN – A bicyclist was seriously injured in a traffic crash on Curlew Road on Saturday (Oct. 13), the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Eduardo Lopez Jr., 56, of Largo, suffered serious injuries to his lower left leg and head when he went under the SUV. The driver, Anthony D.M. Long, 29, of Clearwater, was not injured.

The crash happened about 2:10 p.m.on Curlew Road just west of U.S. 19 N in Dunedin.

Long was driving his 2013 Jeep Wrangler northbound when he attempted to exit the Perkins restaurant parking lot at 2375 Curlew Road to go east on Curlew. Deputies said it appeared that Lopez was traveling westbound on his bicycle on the sidewalk next to the eastbound lanes of Curlew Road.

As Long pulled out of the driveway, the Jeep hit Lopez.
