He sold 30 pianos on consignment but did not pay the people who had owned them, according to the Largo Police Department.

LARGO – The owner of a piano store is accused of selling pianos on consignment but failing to pay the customers who owned them, the Largo Police Department said.

Randall Eugene Sheets, 47, of Treasure Island, is charged with one count each of scheming to defraud, grand theft from a person 65 years of age or older, and grand theft.

Largo police said Detective Lara Young spent countless hours during the past six months investigating Randy’s Pianos, 5047 Ulmerton Road, in connection with allegations of theft. Sheets, who owned the business, took in pianos on consignment from various people over the course of several years, sold the property, and used the funds for personal gain, officers said.

The customers had tried to find out what happened to their pianos, only to be told many different stories by Sheets as to the status of their sales.

Sheets declared bankruptcy Jan. 3 and closed his business. He failed to pay back any of the victims, officers said. Largo police began receiving the complaints shortly after the business closed.

Police said the complaints generated 26 police reports. A total of 24 customers were affected. Of those, seven customers were elderly. In all, 30 pianos were taken on consignment and sold without money being given to the former owners. The total amount owed to customers was $253,070.
