Pasco Teen Accused of Falsely Threatening School Violence

The teen made statements about shooting up his school, according to the Pasco County Sheriff.

PASCO COUNTY – A 15-year-old student was arrested Saturday (Nov. 5) because he allegedly made statements about shooting up his school, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

Corey Fox, 15, a student at Classical Preparatory School, is charged with making a false report to use a firearm in a violent manner, which is a second degree felony. This charge falls under a state law that took effect on Oct. 1. The law, which applies to so-called terroristic threats, prohibits making false reports concerning planting a bomb, explosive, or weapon of mass destruction, to also prohibit making a false report concerning the use of a firearm in a violent manner. Commission of either of these offenses is a second degree felony, punishable by up to 15 years imprisonment and a $10,000 fine.

He is the third Pasco student within a week to be arrested and accused of false threats of violence. Pasco deputies charged Nicholas James Kaar, 15, a Ridgewood High School student, on Wednesday (Nov. 2) with making a false report to use a firearm in a violent manner. Malachi Sir Tage Darrough, 12, a seventh-grade student at R.B. Stewart Middle School, was charged Friday (Nov. 4) with making a false report of a bomb.

This latest incident happened Tuesday (Nov. 1), deputies said. Fox was engaged in a conversation with two other classmates and made statements about shooting up the school. Witnesses said Fox said he knew where he could get a gun and knew the perfect time (during lunch) to do the shooting. The witnesses also reported further statements were made by Fox about specific persons he would shoot and whom he would not.

The conversation was reported to the headmaster of the school, Ben Davis, by one of the classmates. Davis contacted the Sheriff`s Office. Fox was removed from the school.

While being interviewed, deputies said, Fox admitted to making the statements and said he wasn’t serious and didn’t mean to scare anyone.
