The teacher struck the boy in the back with a yard stick, Pasco sheriff’s deputies say.

PASCO COUNTY – A substitute teacher is accused of striking a middle school student with a yard stick, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

Evonne Choucri Francis, 59, of 8233 Night Owl Court in New Port Richey, was charged with one count of child abuse.

Francis, a substitute teacher, was teaching a fifth period class at Paul R. Smith Middle School in Holiday when the incident happened, deputies said. Francis was apparently trying to remove a student from the classroom when the victim approached her and tried to explain that the student was innocent. Deputies said Francis called the child a “rude little boy” and told him to “shut his mouth and get out of the classroom.” The child told deputies Francis then hit him twice across the back with a yard stick that she was walking around the classroom with.

Two other students backed up the victim’s story and a deputy said he saw a small red mark on the child’s back.
