The man told deputies that he was using rope and chain to restrain the victim, not to harm her, according to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office.

PASCO COUNTY – An Indiana man has been charged with attempted murder after he beat up a 90-year-old woman and tried to choke her with a rope and a chain, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said.

Irene Parish, 90, is listed in stable condition in the intensive care unit at a local hospital. Deputies said she suffered severe injuries to her face, head and neck and bleeding in her brain.

Eric Moore, 46, a farm hand from Indianapolis, IN, was charged with attempted felony murder and disorderly intoxication.

Parish and Moore were passengers Thursday (April 6) in a car driven by another woman. Deputies said Moore, who was drinking, was sitting in the back seat behind Parish. The two began arguing and the driver told deputies that Moore pulled Parish’s hair. Deputies said there is evidence that Moore also slammed Parish’s head into the window. He also tried to choke her using a rope and a chain, deputies said.

The driver pulled into the Racetrac gas station at 23390 State Road 54 in Land O’ Lakes where she was able to separate the two. Moore got out of the vehicle and the driver drove away with Parish leaving Moore at the Racetrac.

Deputies said Moore was arrested at the Racetrac and charged with disorderly intoxication. Deputies met with Parish and the witness. Both said they thought Moore was trying to kill the 90 year old.

Deputies said Moore told them that the fight was mutual and that he was not trying to harm her, but used the rope and chain to restrain her. Moore was charged Friday (April 7) with attempted homicide.
