Pasco Deputy Arrested, Sheriff Says

The detention deputy has also been terminated from the Pasco Sheriff’s Office.

PASCO COUNTY – A detention deputy has lost his job and been accused of striking a jail inmate for no reason, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said.

Jorge Febus, 41, was arrested Wednesday (Sept. 21) and charged with battery by a secure facility employee on a confined person. Febus, who had worked for the Pasco sheriff since 2009, was fired.

Deputies said the arrest stemmed from a Sept. 14 incident in the holding area of the west court house in New Port Richey. An inmate kicked and punched the door in the holding cell. While the inmate was in a restraint device, Febus struck the inmate on the side of the head without provocation, deputies said.

The inmate was not injured and did not require medical treatment. Two other deputies were present and confirmed the incident, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
