A man was injured when the deputy crashed into a house, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PASCO COUNTY – A former Pasco deputy was charged with DUI after he crashed into a house early Sunday (Sept. 4), according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Jack Wayne Armstrong, Jr., 23, of Hudson, was charged with driving under the influence, DUI property damage and careless driving, the FHP said. Troopers said he had a blood alcohol content of 0.103. Someone is presumed to be legally drunk in Florida with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or above. He received minor injuries in the crash. Armstrong was a probationary deputy who had worked with the Pasco Sheriff’s Office in corrections since 2013. A sheriff’s spokeswoman said Armstrong has resigned as a deputy.

Roy Tomlin, 71, who lived in the house, also received minor injuries.

The crash happened about 2:20 a.m. Armstrong was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro north on Balsam Avenue. When he got to the stop sign at a T-intersection with Shadow Lake Boulevard, he failed to slow or stop, the FHP said. Armstrong continued driving straight, hitting a stop sign, then the front of the house at 13024 Shadow Lake, troopers said. The crash caused an estimated $75,000 worth of damage to the home.
