The man attacked the deputies when they tried to take him into custody, the Pasco sheriff says.

NEW PORT RICHEY – A man has been charged with hitting deputies while resisting arrest, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

Sherif Elganainy, 21, was charged with two counts of domesic battery, resisting arrest with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer; and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, deputies said.

Pasco Fire-Rescue was called to Elganainy’s residence at 11906 Carissa Lane in the Summertree subdivision about 6:20 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 21) to help an unresponsive elderly man, deputies said. Emergency medical technicians took him to a hospital.

His wife contacted authorities about the fumes that may have led to the elderly male’s collapse. When deputies arrived to talk to the wife, they said they noticed suspicious materials in the bedroom of their son, Sherif Elganainy.

When the deputies went to take Elganainy into custody, deputies said he attacked them and a violent fight ensued. One of the deputies suffered a broken bone in his hand and the other deputy received a blow to the head before Elganainy was subdued, they said.

Authorities were waiting for the service of a search warrant before they re-entered the house to determine what hazardous materials might be in the residence.
