Nursing Home Owner, 73, Accused of Sexual Battery on Employee

Deputies said he admitted to having sexual contact with the woman but said it was consensual.

LEALMAN – The owner of an assisted living facility has been arrested and charged with sexually battering an employee, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Enrique De La Piedra, 73, of Indian Shores, is accused of one count each of sexual battery and false imprisonment.

The incident happened about 3 p.m. Monday (May 22) at the Osprey Assistant Living Facility, 6775 40th Ave. N, in the unincorporated Lealman area. Deputies said De La Piedra, who owns the Osprey ALF, asked the 44-year-old woman to come into his office and speak with him.

The woman entered the office to speak with De La Piedra when he locked the office door behind her. Deputies said De La Piedra then hugged the woman who immediately attempted to get away from De La Piedra, who then sexually assaulted her. The woman told deputies she resisted De La Piedra’s unwanted sexual contact and told him no several times. The woman, who works at the ALF, said she was able to escape from De La Piedra and leave the office.

The woman immediately reported the incident to other employees and deputies were later notified. The woman was not physically injured in the incident, deputies said.

De La Piedra admitted to locking the door in the office and having sexual contact with the woman. Deputies said he told them the sexual contact was consensual.
