Mississippi Woman Charged in Murder of Tampa Man

Sara Rose Dearman | Hillsborough Sheriff | Arrests

It is unclear when she will be extradited from Mississippi.

TAMPA – Deputies have charged a Mississippi woman with the murder last month of a Tampa man, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sara Rose Dearman, 29, whose last known address was Laurel, MS, was charged with one count each of first degree murder (with a weapon), armed burglary of a dwelling, and armed carjacking. All are felonies. Dearman is in custody in Laurel after a Sept. 21 arrest by Mississippi authorities on unrelated charges. The timeline for extradition is unknown.

Dearman’s arrest arises from the murder of Michael Stephey, 66, of Tampa. Mr. Stephey was found deceased inside his home on Sligh Avenue E on Sept. 6. His Lincoln Town was also missing but was later found abandoned at a truck stop in Sumter County.
