The glass piece was left in a box outside the Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg.

ST. PETERSBURG – A unique glass art work that was discovered missing Monday (Feb. 8) was returned overnight. An employee of the Morean Arts Center, 719 Central Ave., about 8:50 a.m. this morning (Feb. 9) discovered a box in front of their business. The art work that had been stolen from the Chihuly Gallery was inside.

St. Petersburg police are reviewing video and interviewing witnesses at this time. The art work was identified and does not appear damaged.

The piece, “Cobalt and Lavender Piccolo Venetian with Gilded Handles,” is about 8 inches by 6 inches by 6 inches and is valued at approximately $20,000-$25,000. Police said gallery employees noticed the piece missing Monday (Feb. 8) morning.  They believe it was stolen Sunday when the gallery, 400 Beach Drive NE, was open to the public.
