Man Shot by Tampa Police Officer

No officers were injured, according to the Tampa Police Department.

TAMPA – One man was shot during an altercation with two police officers early this morning (Aug. 20), the Tampa Police Department said.

Daniel Olinger, 68, was taken to a local hospital after the shooting. His condition is unknown. No police officers were injured.

The incident began about 5:18 a.m. when a neighbor called police with a complaint about what appeared to be two men trespassing at a vacant house at 3416 E 9th Ave. Two officers responded and found two men toward the back of the house, which police described as completely dark..

One of the men entered into an altercation with one of the officers. The officer, fearing for his life, fired his weapon, striking the man, police said.

The officer who fired has been placed on administrative leave, as is standard. The other officer did not fire his weapon. The other man who was at the house was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
