TAMPA – Police here have charged a Tampa man with killing his girlfriend.

Hector Favio Acevedo, 24, of Tampa, was charged with first degree premeditated murder in the death of Shyeanne Lewis, 23. Hillsborough County jail records indicated Acevedo is also facing 16 counts of felon in possession of a firearm.

Tampa police said that Acevedo told relatives on Saturday (April 22) that he wanted to kill himself. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office responded and found that he was a felon in possession of a firearm. While in custody, he made statements that raised concerns about the well being of his girlfriend.

Tampa police went to her apartment to check on her well being. There was no answer. Officers made a forced entry and found Ms. Lewis dead from body trauma. Police said Acevedo admitted he went to Lewis’ apartment at about 3 a.m. and they got into an argument. Because of  evidence at the scene and Acevedo’s statements, Tampa police charged him with murder.
