Man Charged after Shooting at Pasco Deputies, Sheriff Says

PASCO COUNTY – Deputies have accused a man of shooting at them when they tried to pull him over, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

Christopher J. Cutugno, 26, is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault, battery, DUI and DUI property damage.

Deputies said they were called to the area of Darlington and U.S. 19 about 1:40 Sunday (May 21) morning for reports of a shooting. in progress. As deputies arrived, the suspect vehicle was spotted leaving the area.

Deputies said they followed the vehicle to stop it and the man, identified at Cutugno, shot at them. Deputies said when they reached the dead-end of Eastwood Lane, Cutugno shot at them and a deputy returned fire. No one injured, but Cutugno was arrested. Deputies said they found a gun and shell casings.

The deputy has been placed on paid leave according to department policy.
