Man Broke Baby’s Leg, Pinellas Sheriff’s Deputies Say

Gary G. Gibeault | Pinellas Sheriff | Arrests

The man admitted breaking the 8 month old’s leg, but said it was an accident, deputies said.

SEMINOLE – A Seminole man has been accused of child abuse after a baby in his care was found to have multiple breaks in her leg, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Gary G. Gibeault, 32, of Seminole, was charged with one count of aggravated child abuse.

Deputies began their investigation May 10 after the 8-month-old child’s mother took her to a local hospital with multiple bone fractures to the baby’s leg.

The baby was in Gibeault’s care on May 9, when the injuries happened, deputies said. The injuries weren’t reported until the next day after the child’s mother discovered them.

During the course of the investigation, deputies said they found that Gibeault had a warrant for his arrest for violation of probation- possession of cocaine. Gibeault was arrested May 13 because of the warrant.

Deputies interviewed Gibeault at the Pinellas County Jail on May 17. They said he admitted to them that he had caused the injury to the child but claimed it was an accident. He told deputies that he failed to report the baby’s injuries because he had an active warrant for his arrest.

Deputies filed the child abuse charge against Gibeault on Thursday (May 25).
