Douglas W. Fountain | Pinellas Sheriff | Arrests

The baby is 5 months old, Pinellas deputies said.

PINELLAS COUNTY – A Plant City man was charged with drunken driving while he had his 5-month-old daughter in the car, according to the Pinellas County sheriff.

Douglas William Fountain, 48, of 8006 SR 39 S in Plant City, was charged with one count each of driving under the influence with a minor in the vehicle, child abuse (child endangerment), driving while license revoked (felony-habitual), possession of crystal methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, and felonious possession of a concealed weapon. Deputies said the arrest happened Wednesday (Aug. 24) night.

Deputies said an acquaintance of Fountain called the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office to report that he was using drugs and driving in his 2001 red Dodge pickup truck with a baby in the front seat.
Deputies found Fountain soon after and stopped him at the Mobil gas station at 4899 Ulmerton Road in Largo. Fountain’s five-month-old daughter was strapped in her car seat next to him in the passenger seat.

During the traffic stop, Fountain was found to be a habitual traffic offender. Deputies said they found several knives, including a Bowie knife with a 10-inch blade in the truck and a clear glass pipe under the driver’s seat. They said a container with 8.5 grams of crystal methamphetamine was leaning on the baby’s bottle under the passenger’s seat.

The baby was released to the care of child protection investigators. No injuries were reported.
