Lennard High Student Had Drugs on Campus, Deputies Say

Abraham Ruelas | Hillsborough Sheriff | Arrests

He admitted to selling the marijuana and other items at school and said he had been doing so off and on for a while, Hillsborough deputies said.

RUSKIN – A Lennard High School student was arrested on campus today (April 12) after deputies said he had a jar containing marijuana and THC oil cartridges, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Abraham Ruelas, 18, was arrested at the school, 2342 Shell Point Road E, Ruskin. He was charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute within 1,000 feet of a School, Possession of Marijuana Sativa Resin, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Deputies said that, about 9:30 a.m., school administrators told a school resource deputy that Ruelas possessed a jar containing marijuana, seven “Dank Vape” THC oil cartridges, an electronic scale, four electronic smoking devices, and $1,519 in cash.

Ruelas admitted to selling the marijuana and other items at school and said he had been doing so off and on for a while, deputies said.

“We have no tolerance for drugs in our Hillsborough County schools, but it’s especially upsetting when the drug dealer is a student,” Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “It’s disheartening to see a young person who just turned 18 two months ago now facing some very adult charges for his bad decisions. Anytime a young person gets involved in drugs, whether they’re using or selling, they’re risking their future. It’s just not worth it.”
