CLEARWATER – An 18-year-old died Monday (Oct. 16) of wounds he received when he was shot while trying to steal a car, according to the Clearwater Police Department.

Lasupta Singletary, 18, of Zephyrhills, was declared dead at Mease Countryside Hospital where he was driven after the shooting.

A companion, Jernalen Dreshaw Coleman, 17, of Dade City, was arrested and charged with one count each of second-degree felony murder and armed robbery.

Police said the incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. at the Bank of America at the corner of Belcher and Belleair roads. The two arranged to meet with Louise Ornduff, 36, and her son, Kalaeb, in the bank parking lot to discuss the possible sale of a Nissan Rogue.

Coleman and Mr. Singletary were armed and demanded the keys to the Hyundai Veloster that Kalaeb Ornduff had been driving, police said. As the two left the scene in the Veloster, Louise Ornduff fired a shot, striking Mr. Singletary.

Coleman drove the car to Mease Countryside Hospital, where Mr. Singletary was pronounced dead.

Police recovered the guns involved in the incident. The Clearwater Police Department and Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney’s Office will review the case for any possible charges against Louise Ornduff.
