They are considered armed and dangerous, Largo police said.

LARGO – A man was shot in the head Wednesday (Sept. 5) when he escaped from three people who tried to kidnap him, the Largo Police Department said.

Timothy James Nichols, 28, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with a wound to his head. He is expected to recover.

Police are searching for Rhionna Leann Anderson, 24, and Derrick Heckman, 20, who are wanted on charges of kidnapping and attempted murder. A third person is in custody.

Officers were called to the 200 block of Third Street NW about 11:12 a.m. for a call about possible shots being fired.

Police said that, during an apparent drug-related robbery, Anderson, Heckman, and a third man duct-taped Nichols’ feet and hands and forced him into the back of a rented U-Haul truck at gunpoint.

Hearing that Nichols had freed himself from the tape, Anderson and Heckman opened the rear door of the truck. Nichols fled and Anderson fired a shot at him from a semi-automatic handgun, striking him in the head, officers said.

Anderson and Heckman, who fled the scene before officers arrived, abandoned the U-Haul truck at Largo Mall, 10500 Ulmerton Road. Their whereabouts are unknown at this time. There is no current vehicle description for them. They are considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about their location or this incident should call the Largo police at (727) 587-6730.
