The officer involved in the shooting was Matthew Steiner, a seven-year veteran of the department. Steiner was taken to Morton Plant Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting happened about 5:55 p.m. at the Wawa gas station at 1215 N Missouri Ave. Police said the suspected driver tried to pin Steiner between his vehicle and the gas pumps and barriers in the store parking lot. Steiner then fired several shots in self defense, hitting the driver.
