Largo Police Charge Man with DUI Manslaughter
The driver of a motor scooter died in the crash, the Largo Police Department said.
LARGO – A Clearwater man was arrested Sunday (Aug. 20) after a traffic crash that killed a motor scooter driver, according to the Largo Police Department.
David L. Stinger, 59, died of injuries he received in the crash. Alcohol was a factor in the crash, police said.
James A. Mayer, 42, of Clearwater, was charged with one count each of DUI manslaughter and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
The crash happened about 6:07 p.m. at the intersection of Rosery Road and Missouri Avenue. Officers said Mr. Stinger was riding a 2012 scooter west on Rosery. Mayer was driving a 2001
Ford F250 east on Rosery and tried to turn north onto Missouri.
Mayer violated Stinger’s right of way, police said, and struck the scooter in the intersection.
