Largo Police Say They Caught Robber in the Act

When police approached, officers said he tried to run back into the store. They stopped him with the help of K9 Fritz.

LARGO – Officers caught a man who was in the act of robbing a Speedway convenience store this morning, the Largo Police Department said.

Geoffrey Chad Davis, 31, of Clearwater, was charged with one count each of obstructing or resisting an officer without violence and of armed robbery.

Officers received a call about 1:22 this morning (Oct. 24) that a silent alarm had gone off at the Speedway, 2698 Roosevelt Blvd. When police arrive, they saw Davis inside the store with a knife. Two employees were inside with him.

Police surrounded the Speedway and watched Davis, who did not know officers were outside, load a cart full of merchandise.

After about an hour, Davis left through the front door with the stolen merchandise. Once he was a safe distance from the store,, officers said they confronted him. He began to run to the front door. Largo police and K9 Fritz caught him before he re-entered the store.

The store employees were not hurt. Davis had minor injuries.
