He hit a man who was crossing the street, the Largo Police Department said.

LARGO – A Tarpon Springs man was arrested Saturday (Feb. 24) in connection with the hit and run death of a pedestrian, the Largo Police Department said.

Victor Anthony Bonavita, 60, of Tarpon Springs, was charged with one count each of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death, driving with a suspended driver’s license involving a death (habitual traffic offender), tampering with evidence, and an unrelated warrant for grand theft.

Police said Bonavita was driving the vehicle that hit and killed John W. English, 74, on Wednesday (Feb. 21) as he was crossing E Bay Drive. The vehicle left the scene after the crash.
