The van driver suffered minor injuries, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

PINELLAS COUNTY – A Largo man was accused of drunken driving in connection with a traffic crash that injured the driver of a sheriff’s transport van, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Hanson, the driver of the sheriff’s van, was taken to Northside Hospital with minor injuries. Hanson is employed by G4S. There were no prisoners in the van at the time of the crash.

Mark D. Foster, 57, of Largo, was charged with one count of driving under the influence. Foster was not injured in the crash.

The crash happened about 12:28 a.m. today (Jan. 6) at the intersection of Ulmerton Road and U.S. 19 N in the unincorporated Largo area. Hanson was stopped at a red light on westbound Ulmerton when in a 2017 Ford Transit van when he was hit from behind by a 2016 Toyota Corolla driven by Foster.

Foster showed numerous indicators of impairment, including a blood alcohol concentration of .143/.154, deputies said.
