Land O’ Lakes Man Accused of DUI, Child Neglect
He had three children in the car while driving under the influence, according to Pasco deputies.
PASCO COUNTY – A Land O’ Lakes man has been accused of child neglect for driving drunk with three children in the SUV, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said.
Jerry Allen Currie, 40, of Land O’ Lakes, was charged with Driving Under the Influence and Child Neglect. Deputies said Currie performed poorly on field sobriety tests and had a BAC reading of 0.164 and 0.159.
A Pasco sheriff’s deputy said he spotted Currie about 11:32 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 3) driving a Jeep Renegade at the intersection of Lake Patience Road and Voyager Boulevard. Currie “aggressively” crossed the intersection “causing the tires to skid and squeal before continuing to accelerate into an apartment complex,” according to the arrest affidavit.
When the deputy stopped the Jeep, he saw Currie had three children, aged 10-, 11- and 12 years old, with him in the SUV.
Currie had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his mouth and was slurring his words. The deputy said Currie admitted to drinking beer at a bar before going home. He told the deputy he could not remember how many beers he drank but knew it was more than three.
