She told deputies she left the 1-year-old baby in the car because she was running late.

PINELLAS COUNTY – A Kenneth City woman has been accused of child neglect after she left her 1 year old son alone in a car at the Pinellas County Courthouse, deputies said.

Antwynett A. Lane, 28, was charged with one count of child neglect.

The incident happened about noon Friday (June 30) in the parking lot at the Pinellas County Justice Center, 14520 49th St N. Deputies at the courthouse said a courthouse employee told them that there was a young child left alone inside a vehicle parked in the courthouse parking lot.

When deputies located the vehicle, they found a 1-year-old child sleeping inside the locked car with the windows rolled up, the engine running, and the air conditioning on. Deputies say one of the vehicle vent windows was missing, and was covered in tape. Deputies got into the car through the missing window to rescue the baby, who was unharmed.

Lane, the boy’s mother, returned to the car shortly afterward. Deputies said Lane admitted she intentionally left the baby in the car because she was running late. Deputies said Lane was visiting the courthouse to pay a ticket. They estimate the baby was left alone for about 15 minutes.
