Inmate Released from Jail, Tries to Steal Deputy’s Car in Jail Parking Lot, Pasco Sheriff Says

He had been in custody in connection with an auto theft charge, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said.
LAND O’ LAKES – A New Port Richey man who had just been released from jail was re-arrested Tuesday (Nov 14) after he tried to steal a deputy’s car in the parking lot of the Pasco Detention Center, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
Klaid Karpuzi, 41, of New Port Richey, was charged with one count of vehicle/auto theft.
Deputy Feliciti Brunner, who had attended a class at the detention center, was sitting in her personal vehicle in the jail parking lot with the engine running.
Karpuzi had just been released from jail where where he had been in custody since Nov. 11 on a charge of auto theft. As he was walking through the parking lot of the jail, Karpuzi tried to get into Brunner’s vehicle with her in it by pulling on the passenger’s side door handle.
Brunner got out of her car, identified herself as an off-duty sheriff’s deputy and escorted Karpuzi into the front lobby of the jail .
Karpuzi told deputies he saw a vehicle with the engine running and did not realize anyone was in it.
