Three Injured in Crash with Stolen Car, Clearwater Police Say

The driver of the stolen car crashed into the rear of another car on Court Street, according to Clearwater police.

CLEARWATER – Three people were injured, one critically, in an early morning crash with a speeding stolen car on Court Street, according to the Clearwater Police Department.

The driver of the car that was hit by the stolen vehicle was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg by Bayflite in critical condition. His passenger was taken to Bayfront by ambulance. She is being treated for injuries suffered during the rear-end crash.

The accused driver of the stolen vehicle, Corey Andrew Feldman, 28, of Clearwater, was taken to Morton Plant Hospital where he was treated for his injuries, police said. Feldman will be taken to the Pinellas County Jail where he will be charged with Grand Theft Auto, DUI with Serious Bodily Injury, Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Serious Bodily Injury, Careless Driving, and Driving with a Suspended License.

Police said Feldman has been arrested before on charges that include DUI.

The crash happened about 12:40 a.m. today (May 6) on Court Street near Hillcrest Avenue in Clearwater.

Police said Feldman stole a friend’s Mercedes AMG from the Speedway gas station at Chestnut Street and Fort Harrison Avenue, then drove at a high rate of speed eastbound on Court Street. He slammed into the rear of a BMW that also was traveling eastbound.

After the crash, police said, Feldman fled from the scene but was found shortly after at a nearby hotel.

The crash shut down traffic in both directions on Court Street from Highland Avenue to Hillcrest Avenue  Traffic on Highland was also affected, officers said.
