PASCO COUNTY – A Hudson man has been accused in the death Friday (Dec. 1) of a bicyclist on State Road 52, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Joseph Alan Barnes, 27, of Hudson, died at the scene.

Garrett Juhler-Robbins, 26, of Hudson, was charged with one count each of DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a crash involving a death.

The crash happened about 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of SR 52 and Chicago Avenue. Troopers said Juhler-Robbins was driving a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck east on SR 52. He failed to stop at a red traffic signal at Chicago Avenue. Mr. Barnes was riding a bicycle south at the intersection in a marked crosswalk.

The pickup truck entered the intersection and collided with Mr. Barnes.

Troopers said Juhler-Robbins initially tried to flee, but was stopped about two miles away by Pasco County sheriff’s deputies who were in the area. He was later arrested by FHP troopers.
