Homeless Man Charged with Stealing Pasco Deputy’s Gun

The deputy left the gun in the bathroom of a Burger King restaurant, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

PASCO COUNTY – A homeless man has been arrested and charged with taking a deputy’s gun from the bathroom of a Burger King restaurant, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said.

David Scott Haney, 49, was charged with one count of theft of a firearm.

Officials said Pasco K9 Deputy Patrick Bingham and his dog, Benco, located the gun this morning (June 9) in a wooded area near Oelsner Street and Green Key Beach.

The 40-caliber agency-issued handgun was taken sometime between 11:29 a.m. and 12:16 p.m. Friday (June 8) from the bathroom of a  an unknown suspect removed a

firearm without permission from the bathroom of the restaurant, 6319 U.S. 19 in New Port Richey  where the Pasco sheriff’s detective left it.

Other details were not immediately available.
