Homeless Man Charged in Double Murder in St. Petersburg

Charles Edward Hixon | St Petersburg Police | Arrests

The victims’ bodies were found in an alley Tuesday morning.

ST. PETERSBURG – A homeless man has been accused of the murders of two people whose bodies were found Tuesday (Oct. 16) in an alley, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Charles Edward Hixon, Jr., 30, was charged with two counts of first degree murder in connection with the deaths of Kenneth Lee Shook, 35, and Cheryl Lee Casey, 58. Officers said Dixon had a transient address and had been released from prison in April for a 2009 robbery.

The bodies of Mr. Shook and Ms. Casey were found in an alley off 14th Avenue S about 7:30 Tuesday morning when a woman flagged down an officer who was driving to work. She told the officer she had seen a body in the alley. The officer found both bodies and a pickup truck at the scene. Investigators said they believed there were “drug overtones” to the incident.
