HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Two sheriffs deputies saved a Valrico woman who was trying to kill herself, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

A family contacted the sheriff’s office about 8:20 p.m. Monday (July 25) to ask deputies to do a welfare check on the victim at her home in Valrico.

When Deputy Dan Jones arrived, he could hear a vehicle running inside the residence in the garage and the garage door felt hot. Deputy Jeffery Stout arrived and helped Jones force his way into the house. Once inside, deputies could smell exhaust fumes in the air. Deputies made their way through the house to the garage and found a 2013 Honda with the engine running.

They checked inside the car and found a semi-conscious female sitting in the driver’s seat. The deputies shut the engine off and carried the woman outside and placed her on the grass in the front yard.

Deputies notified the occupants of the condos next door to make sure they were not affected by the carbon monoxide fumes. Those residents were evacuated for a short time until it was safe to return home.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue took the woman to Brandon Hospital where she was Baker Acted and is expected to make a full recovery. There were no other injuries.
