Arrests | Crime | Handcuffs

He voluntarily resigned from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office after almost 20 years of employment.

TAMPA – The Tampa Police Department arrested a Hillsborough detention deputy Friday (Nov. 30) after he was accused of pointing a gun at his live-in girlfriend, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Ansel Price Mashburn, 48, was charged with one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Firearm – Possession. Deputies said Mashburn’s last day of work at the HCSO was Thursday (Nov. 29) when he voluntarily submitted his resignation paperwork after almost 20 years of employment.

deputies said the two were arguing at their home in the Old Carrollwood area when Mashburn pointed an empty, personally-owned handgun at his girlfriend and pulled the trigger, placing her in fear for her life.

“Domestic violence has no place in our society and I have zero tolerance for anyone who harms those they are supposed to care the most about,” Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “At the HCSO, we hold our ourselves to a higher standard and when one of our own is arrested for such a detestable act, it is extremely disheartening.”
