Police Lights | Florida | TB Reporter

He pointed a gun at deputies causing them to fear for their lives, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said. Neither deputy was injured.

RIVERVIEW – One man is dead after two deputies shot him early this morning (July 13) during a domestic incident in Riverview, the Hillsborough County Sheriff said.

The dead man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Deputies said he had a history of contacts with law enforcement including robbery and multiple white collar crimes in Texas and a misdemeanor arrest for trespassing in Florida.

Neither deputy – Dannett Brennan or Joshua Berrios – was injured. Brennan, 31, has worked for the Hillsborough sheriff since Feb. 10, 2014, and has no previous incidents of using force. Berrios, 27, has been with the department since Aug. 5, 2015. Berrios has one incident of using force on June 26, 2016.

The incident began about 3:10 a.m. when deputies were called to Estates Del Sol Drive by a woman claiming her estranged husband had showed up at her home and would not leave. Berrios and Brennan responded to the scene and made contact with the estranged husband.

Deputies said he refused to respond to several of their commands, raised a firearm and continued to refuse demands to drop the weapon. Soon thereafter, he pointed a weapon at them at which time, both deputies feared for their lives and fired multiple shots at the man. He died at the scene.

This is an ongoing and active investigation, deputies said. As more details become available, they will be released.
