Hillsborough Deputies Bust Grow House

This was the 59th grow house bust of the year, according to the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Deputies busted their 59th grow house of the year when they executed a search warrant on a home just north of Tampa International Airport, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrested two people at the Burke Street W house in Tampa: Pedro Avila, 36, was charged with one count each of trafficking in marijuana; manufacture of marijuana; own, lease, or rent for purpose of trafficking; grand theft third degree; and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. Mercedes Enciso, 59, was charged with one count each of manufacture of marijuana; trafficking in marijuana; own, lease, or rent for purpose of trafficking; and grand theft third degree.

Members of the department’s marijuana grow house unit and Division III street crime unit executed the warrant Tuesday (Nov. 7) morning. Deputies said they found two rooms dedicated to marijuana cultivation and 27 marijuana plants growing in soil-filled pots. The marijuana weighed 77.32 pounds and has a street value of about $154,000.

Deputies said Tampa Electric Co. found an illegal electric connection providing unmetered electricity to the residence. The value of the unmetered electricity was about $4,040.13.
