Hillsborough Deputies Accuse Restaurant Employee of Theft

Deputies said he stole a handgun and a safe from his employer.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Deputies here have arrested a man they say burglarized his employer’s business and stole a hamdgun and a safe.

Gregory Ernest Lydick, 42, of Ruskin, was charged with armed burglary of a structure, second degree grand theft, criminal mischief, and grand theft of a firearm, according to Hillsborough County Jail records.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said that about 11 p.m. Thursday (April 3), the owners of the Hot Tomato, 2702 E College Ave. in Ruskin, saw Lydick, on video surveillance in the closed business without permission. The owners came to the restaurant and took the business key from him after he took $100 from a safe.

Later, about 2:20 a.m., deputies said Lydick disarmed the security system, entered the business, and stole another safe. He also stole a Phoenix Arms .22 caliber handgun, they said.
