High School Teacher Accused of Recording Student Undressing

Hillsborough County Public School’s Professional Standards was notified and is also investigating.

VALRICO – A teacher at Bloomingdale High School is accused of recording a female student while she was undressing, the Hillsborogh County Sheriff’s Office said.

Mark William Ackett, 49, of Plant City, was charged with one count of video voyeurism.

Around 10 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 11), a student at Bloomingdale student went into a designated fitting/changing room within a fashion design classroom to try on clothing. While changing into various outfits, she noticed an electronic recording devices set up to covertly record the same area where she was undressing.

The student immediately dressed herself and reported the incident to the school administration. The school administration began an initial investigation and alerted the Hillsborough sheriff’s office. Detectives
began a criminal investigation.

Detectives found that the cameras had been secretly placed in the changing room by Ackett, the fashion design teacher. Deputies said Ackett intentionally put them there to record the girl in various stages of undress. Detectives said Ackett admitted to them that he was recording students while they were changing.

Ackett was arrested and charged with one count of video voyeurism. Hillsborough County Public School’s Professional Standards was notified and is also investigating. The criminal investigation is active and on-going.
