Hernando Woman Stabbed to Death with Sword

Eric Huffman | Citrus Sheriff | Arrests

A Hernando man has been charged with her murder, which happened in Citrus County.

CITRUS COUNTY – A Hernando man is accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death with a sword late Sunday (April 2) night, according to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.

Brandi Blevins, 42, of Hernando County, was dead when deputies arrived.

Eric Huffman, 41, also of Hernando County, was charged with one count of premeditated murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Huffman has a lengthy criminal
history including burglary, resisting law enforcement and two recent arrests of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Deputies said Huffman confessed to stabbing Ms. Blevins, who was his former girlfriend.

Citrus County sheriff’s deputies were called to a house on E Benjamin Street about 10:30 p.m. after receiving a call that a woman was being stabbed. When deputies arrived, they found Ms. Blevins  at the base of the front porch with multiple deep cuts to her legs, thighs, torso and body from a large sword. Ms. Blevins also had a large wound on the back of her head.

One witness told deputies that, after Huffman stabbed Ms. Blevins, he ran to his truck and proceeded to run her over before crashing into a nearby tree. Huffman then ran away on foot.

Deputies issued an Alert Citrus notification to every resident within a one-mile radius asking them to lock their doors, to be on the lookout for an armed subject, and to call 9-1-1 if they saw anyone suspicious. While deputies, K9 teams and aviation were canvasing the area, a nearby neighbor told deputies there was a man on her back pool deck. Deputies went to the residence and took Huffman into custody without incident.

“First and foremost – our thoughts and prayers are with those who were impacted by this horrible crime,” Citrus County Sheriff Mike Prendergast said. “This is a perfect example of why Alert Citrus is such an important tool for our agency. We captured this extremely dangerous man quickly because we were able to warn nearby residents immediately.”
