K9 Justice found him hiding in a pond behind a Brooksville home.

HERNANDO COUNTY – A Hernando County Sheriff’s K9 captured a suspected car thief Wednesday (Dec. 19) after he fled from deputies.

Michael Ryan Lisk, 31, a transient from Brooksville, was taken to Bayfront Health Brooksville where he was treated for dog bites. After he was released, he was taken to jail and charged with eight counts of Conveyance Burglary, two counts of Grand Theft Auto, and one count each of Resisting Arrest Without Violence, and Commercial Burglary.

Hernndo deputies said he admitted committing burglaries and fleeing from law enforcement.

Deputies said they began investigating Nov. 28 when a red Hyundai Sonata was stolen from Fish Cove Drive in Spring Hill. Investigation revealed that Lisk was a suspect.

On Monday (Dec. 17), sheriff’s detectives began investigating several vehicle burglaries that took place at Vans, Cars, and Trucks, 7043 Broad St. in Brooksville. During these crimes, a male suspect removed
items from inside several vehicles at the dealership along with rims and tires from a vehicle on the lot.

Later that day, detectives saw the stolen vehicle being driven recklessly and tried to make a traffic stop, but the driver fled at a high rate of speed. Because of the driver’s dangerous driving pattern, the pursuit was terminated. Deputies said they determined that Lisk was the driver.

That evening, patrol deputies were called to Everett Avenue in Spring Hill regarding an abandoned vehicle. It was discovered that the vehicle was recently stolen from Elwood Road in Spring Hill. The contents inside the vehicle were removed before it was abandoned.

On  Tuesday (Dec. 18), employees with Vans, Cars, and Trucks saw a Hyundai Sonata with the rims on it that were stolen from the business a few days before. The car was being driven in Pasco County by Lisk; but when deputies with the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office tried to stop the car, it fled north into Hernando County, where it could not be found.

About 7:24 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 19), patrol deputies answered a suspicious vehicle call at the intersection of Oakwood and Varsity drives in Brooksville. It was reported that a Hyundai Sonata, with a man later
identified as Lisk, had been seen in the area and that the man was acting strange. This location was not far from Hernando High School, where students were arriving.

As deputies arrived on scene, Lisk fled on foot. Deputies determined that the car was the stolen Hyundai. Detectives, patrol deputies, K9, aviation, and community policing units conducted a search.

A track was conducted by Cpl. Steve Miller and K9 Justice. Lisk was found hiding in a body of water behind a residence on Ederington Drive in Brooksville. Lisk failed to comply with orders and K9 Justice was deployed, resulting in Lisk’s being bitten before being taken into custody.

The stolen Hyundai was recovered along with the stolen rims and tires from Vans, Cars and Trucks. Deputies said they also found property belonging to the Elwood Road victim inside the car.
